Why We Celebrate Local Artists at ROOST

Why We Celebrate Local Artists at ROOST

There’s something undeniably special about walking into a home and feeling an immediate sense of place. At ROOST, we believe that magic often comes from the artwork on the walls—the textures, colors, and stories that connect us to the islands we call home. That’s why our studio in Kailua-Kona is deeply rooted in a mission to uplift and showcase local Hawai‘i artists. Whether you’re styling your forever home or furnishing your vacation hale, incorporating local artwork brings authenticity, culture, and soul into every space.

A Studio Rooted in Community

ROOST Design Hale isn’t just a design studio—it’s a living, breathing showcase of Hawai‘i’s creative spirit. Our shop at Bay 7 at BREW is filled with thoughtfully selected works from artists who live, work, and draw inspiration from these islands. We’re proud to feature a wide range of styles, from contemporary abstract paintings and mixed media pieces to intricate mosaics and vibrant silk prints.

We intentionally curate a rotating selection of pieces, so every visit offers something new. This ever-evolving gallery allows us to spotlight the incredible talent found across Oʻahu, Maui, and the Big Island, all while giving our clients access to artwork that carries the energy and emotion of its place of origin.

Why Local Art Matters in Design

We see art not as an afterthought but as a core part of how we design a space. When you fill your home with locally made artwork, you’re creating something deeply personal and layered with meaning. These pieces spark conversation, hold history, and reflect a sense of place that simply can’t be found in mass-produced decor.

From a design standpoint, local artwork adds a richness that brings balance to even the most minimal interiors. It tells your story. It roots your space in the islands. And perhaps most importantly, it supports living artists—your neighbors, your community.

More Than a Shop—A Place to Connect

Because so many of the works we carry are one-of-a-kind or limited-run, we don’t list them all online. Instead, we invite you to visit us in person. Whether you’re seeking a unique gift, a finishing touch for your home, or even looking to commission a piece in a custom size or palette—we’re here to help you connect with the right artist and find something truly special.

And if you’re just beginning your design journey? Our team of interior design and build professionals can help you plan a space around that one piece you fall in love with—or help you build an entire story, one room at a time.

Why ROOST?

We’re more than a furniture store or design studio. We’re curators, collaborators, and connectors. At ROOST, we believe that your home should reflect the places and people that matter most. And for those of us who love Hawai‘i, there’s no better way to honor that connection than by supporting the artists who call it home.

So next time you’re in Kailua-Kona, swing by and see what’s on the walls. You might just find something that speaks to you—and makes your home feel more like you.
